When someone has died
We are sorry for your loss. The clergy of St Hilda’s will help you plan a funeral that honours the person you love, whatever their faith.
If you need to speak to someone now
Call the parish office on (01) 2345 6789, or ask your funeral director to contact us. We will return your call as soon as we can, usually within one working day.
Outside office hours, including evenings and weekends, the Vicar can be reached on (01) 2345 6700.
What happens next
Arranging a funeral

Contact a funeral director
Most families begin with a funeral director, who will contact us to check dates. You are also welcome to call us first.

Meet with the clergy
We will visit you at home, or meet at the vicarage, to hear about the person who has died and to plan the service with you.

The funeral service
The service can be held in church, at the crematorium chapel or at the graveside, with hymns, readings and tributes you choose.

Afterwards
Ashes may be buried in the churchyard memorial garden. Each November we remember all who have died in the parish at a service of remembrance.

You may be wondering
Did the person need to be a churchgoer?
No. The parish church is here for everyone in Hawthorn Vale, and we take funerals for people of all faiths and none.
Can the family choose music and readings?
Yes. We can suggest hymns and readings, and recorded music and tributes from family and friends are welcome.
What does a funeral cost?
There is a set fee for the service, plus optional costs for the organist and for use of the church. Your funeral director will include these in their estimate.
Can we use the hall afterwards?
Yes. The parish hall is available for refreshments after a funeral in church.
