The Parish of St Hilda
A small, friendly Anglican parish that has kept the daily round of prayer in Hawthorn Vale since 1868.
Our story
More than 150 years of prayer
St Hilda’s was built in 1868 of local sandstone, to a design by a young architect who went on to build churches across the region. The bell tower was added in 1904, and the stained glass of the east window, given in memory of those who served in the Great War, was installed in 1921.
Today the parish is a mix of long-time families and newcomers, young and old. We are proud of our choir, our Sunday School and the food pantry that meets in the hall each Friday.

What we believe
Faith, worship and service
We belong to the Anglican Church, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as set out in the ancient creeds, and we try to follow Jesus in worship, in study and in service to our neighbours.
Everyone is welcome here, whatever your background, whatever your questions, and wherever you are on the journey of faith.

Parish groups
Parish choir
Rehearses Thursdays at 7 pm and sings at the 10 am Eucharist and Evensong. No audition needed.
Sunday School
For children aged 4 to 11, during the first part of the 10 am service.
Bible study
Tuesday mornings in the meeting room, with tea.
Food pantry
Fridays 10 am to noon in the hall. Volunteers always welcome.
Flower guild
Decorates the church each week and for festivals and weddings.
Pastoral visitors
Visit parishioners at home and in hospital, and bring communion.
